The How, What, & Why
Problem: There is more to a flea and tick problem than just on the pet. Adult fleas feed on the pet and then their droppings (dried blood) feed their larvae that are on the floor indoors and on the ground outdoors. Once the larvae develop, then pupate, they then wait in the pupal stage until they spring out of their pupal casing as they sense the CO2 and temperature of an animal nearby. Ticks are hatched from eggs that are typically outdoors and the first instar climbs to the tips of grass and hold their top claws in the air to catch a hold of any animal that is walking by them.
Solution: It is essential to target the stages of both fleas and ticks on the floors indoors. All the floors indoors need to be treated. For hardwood floors, a liquid spray is generally the preferred method of treatment (such as our Flea/Tick Yard and Home Spray). However for carpets, liquids have a hard time penetrating down to the base of the carpet where the eggs and larvae are feeding on the dried blood scat has dropped from the adult fleas. For fleas the areas where the animals jump down on the floor (off of beds, couches, etc…) will shake off most of their eggs in that immediate area. Our Carpet Powder is lightly sprinkled over the carpet and then brushed down into the carpet fibers with a regular broom or such. The dust will remain at the base of the carpet even after a few vacuum sessions.
